Dancing With The Richmond Stars just celebrated it’s 5th year with a gala event bigger than ever! It’s very exciting to see this fundraiser grow every year, and I’m so happy to have been a part of it since the beginning. This event is hosted by the Richmond hospice association to raise money and awareness for end of life care.
Dancing the Jive with Carol Day
For 2016, I was paired up with Richmond City Councillor, Carol Day. I have been quite blessed with dance partners for this show, and with all her amazing energy, I was able to choreograph a Jive routine to James Brown’s I Got You (I Feel Good). Carol worked her butt off and all the hard work paid off for the performance. Although we did not win, we definitely were the favourite for a lot of the crowd.
Dancing the Cha Cha with Michele Nielsen
Not only did I have a new partner for the show, but I was also coming back as returning champion from DWTRS 2015 with Michele. We performed an encore performance of our Cha Cha routine to Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk ft. Bruno Mars. Michele is an amazing woman who’s become very passionate about her dancing over the past year and continues to train for further competitions and events. She’s a cancer survivor and through her diagnosis and treatments realised the importance of end of life services. You can check out a piece made by Shaw TV on her story by clicking the link here.
More ShawTV DWTRS Coverage!
We were very lucky this year that one of the competitors worked for ShawTV, so we were able to have lots of media coverage during the event. You can check out their video below which talks about hospice, what the event is about, with a couple extra interviews from the competitors as well.
