Ballroom

For Everyone

David Marasigan specializes in providing ballroom lessons for beginners, wedding couples, social dancers, and competitors in a fun and friendly environment. Dancing provides an amazing outlet for expression and connection with others.  Moving with another person in sync with music, feeling the lead and follow, is a conversation you can have without words while still conveying your emotion, attitude, and personality. It’s never too late to learn to dance. Young or old, with two left feet or two right, learning to dance ballroom is rewarding, social and fun.  Learn as a couple or by yourself, you’re guaranteed to make new experiences, meet new friends, and gain a new sense of confidence on the dance floor.  Ballroom can be easy and social, all the way to energetic and competitive.  It leaves a lasting impression at your wedding, and gives you stories to tell for years to come.

  • My fiancé and I took 8 group lessons with David this spring and he was fantastic! We are both quite uncoordinated and I left self conscious with my dancing abilities. David’s is a extremely patient, knowledgeable, helpful and easy going teacher who makes dancing fun and enjoyable. I highly recommend him to anyone and we hope to take some more private lessons with him soon. Thank you David!

Why should I take dance lessons for my wedding?

For most wedding receptions, there is a transition from the formal sit-down events of the evening, such as the dinner and speeches, to the more informal dance party at the end of the evening.  It is customary for you, the Bride & Groom, to be the first couple on the dance floor…

I want to take dance lessons, but my fiancé is against the idea. What can I do?

The idea of dance lessons is often a very foreign idea to many people here in Vancouver. It’s just not part of our culture.  Many people look at TV shows such as ‘Dancing With the Stars’ or ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ and say that there’s no way they would want to do that.  However, dance lessons for your wedding dance don’t have to be that intense; they can be totally different…

I can’t dance to save my life. Will dance lessons even help at all?

Without a doubt, dance lessons can help anyone, especially for those who feel that dance doesn’t come naturally to them.  Will you become the next Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers?  Probably not, but then again that’s probably not your goal for your wedding…

  • Sonia and I have had the great pleasure of experiencing some group dance lessons for beginners with David instructing us. This is a very fun taste of a number of ballroom dances that we would recommend attending Davids classes to anyone. Great music with the huge added benefit of a physical, mental and emotional workout. We’ll be taking more lessons and I think we are going to have to invite our friends to join us.
    Thanks David

  • My husband and I are attending David’s beginner dance classes in the North Shore. It is our first time taking dance lessons and we are greatly enjoying them! David is a great teacher!!! He explains the dance steps clearly, several times, and offers tips on how to achieve proper posture and rhythm, on how to lead and follow, etc.  We’ve come a long way, very quickly. =)  We will continue attending David’s classes, and highly recommend anyone to give them a try, it’s lots of fun!

  • I was paired with David for a charity fundraiser, Richmond Dancing with the Stars in March. David taught me our winning cha cha dance routine over a six week period. Since our win I have continued to take lessons with David. He is a kind, understanding and patient teacher. He is able to explain the dance steps clearly while allowing you to learn at your own pace. He knows when it is time to push you a little past your comfort zone to the next level. I highly recommend David as a dance instructor.

  • I met David about 8 years ago I was taking group classes at the time, learning International Style Ballroom Dance. I was hooked. I have had the wonderful opportunity to watch David at various Ballroom Competitions competing and have also seen him perform with an Adult Dance Performance Team for many years. David is a joy to watch dance, very strong but calm and moves with ease.

  • I took the beginner ballroom dancing lessons with David in North Vancouver, the classes were awesome. I always felt I was missing something in the past when I danced. David has he ability to break down the steps and make them easy to understand. He also takes the time to make sure his students have the correct posture for all the dances.

I would not hesitate to recommend David as an instructor for beginners or more experienced dancers.

  • David is extremely patient with his teaching in private lesson instruction and very knowledgeable. He has had many years of experience and is always upgrading his own skill to become the very best that he can be which I really admire in an instructor. David always makes the lessons fun and explains things in different ways so you can truly understand. Thank you David for helping me grow and be the best that I can be with my own personal journey in dance.

    Heather Dunn, Pro-Am Student
  • I began taking private lessons with David recently as I wanted to grow and learn more with my own dancing. The nice thing about taking private lessons is you really get one on one instruction and your own learning curve excels.

Classes

From Social To Serious

If you are looking for a fun and stimulating activity to do, that is both physically and mentally challenging, ballroom dancing is for you.  Whether you are a beginner dancer who’s curious as to what ballroom is, or a veteran whose goal is to become more proficient at what you already know,  I can help you!  You’re never too young or old to start. The beauty of dance is it can be done by everyone.

Group Classes

This is the perfect introduction into ballroom dancing.  Learn the basics and gain confidence on the floor in a fun, casual, and social setting.  There’s no experience or partner necessary.  Whether you’ve never danced a step in your life, or want to dust off the old dancing shoes, these classes are right for you.

Private Lessons

The private lesson is perfect for couples or singles who want to develop their dance skills by getting more individual attention at their own pace.  This sort of attention is simply not possible in a group setting.  Private lessons can also get you ready for a cruise, wedding or special event.

Should I take private or group lessons?

If you just want a basic introduction to ballroom dancing and want to do it socially with friends, a group class would be most appropriate for you. If you are more driven and detail-oriented with your approach to dancing, then private lessons would be more suitable…

I don’t have a partner, what class can I take?

You can join any of our group classes as a single or take private lessons. All of our group classes welcome singles. If there are any other singles in our group, you can always pair up with them, or you can just learn the steps on your own…

I watch ‘Dancing With the Stars’ and I’m totally excited. What should I do?

Meet David

For The Love & Passion of Dance

I believe ballroom dance connects people together in a way no other social activity can.  Through artistry, through passion, and through love.  Ballroom for me has become a way of life.  On and off the floor it has given me many opportunities to experience and achieve goals I wouldn’t have thought possible. Being part of a community that has brought me so many friends and so much love over the years, I want to share these experiences with you.

My Story

For two years my brother bugged me to start ballroom until I finally gave in and joined a youth class in 1999.  Before long, I found myself involved in local competitions, and many community events from putting on demonstrations to being a guest teacher at my own high school…

  • I began taking private lessons with David recently as I wanted to grow and learn more with my own dancing. The nice thing about taking private lessons is you really get one on one instruction and your own learning curve excels.

Philosophy

I’m all about community and connection.  It’s not about memorizing steps and just making them work.  It’s about the conversation of two bodies in harmony with the music. The way I teach and dance comes from my passion to express emotion though what I love.

Profile

All you need to know about me outside the ballroom.  Where I was born and raised, and other activities I do.  Yes I do more than just dance.
